This hill, in the municipality of Kluisbergen, has been included in the Tour of Flanders since 1986, after the reconstruction of the road in cobblestones. The cobblestones are since 1993 a protected Monument. Together with the Koppenberg and the Oude Kwaremont, the Paterberg is one of the heaviest slopes of the race and also a keen judge. It is a narrow cobblestonesroad with an average slope-rate of 12.5% and a steepest 20%. The top is at 80 m altitude.

The Paterberg is also more often climbed in the E3-prijs and Dwars door Vlaanderen and also in competitions for women.
