This hill, nicknamed the Hump of Melden, in the village of Melden belonging to the city of Oudenaarde, has been a protected monument since 1995. The hill is especially known for cycling, where it's one of the most dreaded cobble stones hills of the Tour of Flanders. One climbs from the west, so actually the Rotelenberg via the Steengat. At the steepest point of this slope a rate of 22% is achieved (25% in the inside curve). In 2002, the Koppenberg was completely re-constructed with the same cobblestones.

We measure over 682 meters from foot to top!

The Koppenberg was also taken once in Gent-Wevelgem, and the same happened in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Annually there's also the Koppenbergcross on All Saints Day.
